The heart of Umrah is two counts: seven circuits around the Kaaba and seven laps between Safa and Marwah. Watch them, pause them, step through them.

Seven circuits anticlockwise, starting from the line of the Black Stone, with the Kaaba on your left.

Sa'i

Laps

Seven laps between Safa and Marwah. Safa to Marwah counts as one, Marwah back to Safa as two, ending at Marwah. Men walk briskly between the green lights.

    Ihram

    Make your intention and enter ihram before the miqat. On a direct flight to Jeddah this happens on the plane.

    Halq or taqsir

    Men shave or shorten their hair; women trim a small amount.

The talbiyah

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ، إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ

Labbayk Allāhumma labbayk, labbayka lā sharīka laka labbayk, innal-ḥamda wan-ni‘mata laka wal-mulk, lā sharīka lak

“Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. All praise, all blessings and all sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”
