    What getting ready looks like

Three stages before you fly and one after you land, each with an example date counted from today.

    01 · MONTHS BEFORE

    Save, choose and learn

Example: Raheema flies on in 182 days

With half a year to go, the work is money, paperwork and learning. Nothing to pack yet.

    • Set a budget and save a little every month
    • Check your passport has at least six months left on your return date
    • Compare licensed travel agents and read their reviews
    • Start learning the steps of Umrah and their duas, a few at a time
    • Walk more each week to build stamina
    02 · WEEKS BEFORE

    Get the paperwork moving

Example: Raheema flies on in 42 days

Six weeks out is when visas, vaccinations and bookings need to be done, and the trip starts to feel real.

    • Apply for the visa and check your permits
    • See your GP or a travel clinic about vaccinations
    • Book flights and hotels, and note them in one place
    • Buy ihram, a belt and sandals
    • Write down your intention before life gets busy
    03 · DAYS BEFORE

    Pack and prepare

Example: Raheema flies on in 6 days

Less than a week to go. This is where a packing checklist earns its place.

    • Pack using the checklist and tick as you go
    • Print documents and keep copies on your phone
    • Ask family and friends what they'd like you to pray for
    • Cut nails and trim before ihram, then charge everything
    • Put your ihram in your hand luggage
    04 · HOME AGAIN

Celebrate and hold on to it

Example: Raheema landed home on 3 days ago

The journey doesn't end at the airport. Welcome them home, and keep what changed.

    • Put up the bunting and welcome them home
    • Give a card or a gift with their name on it
    • Write the reflections page while it's fresh
    • Pick two habits to keep, and tell someone
    • Make dua for the people who made dua for you
